Deep Research
Deep Research produces comprehensive, fully-cited reports by planning and running multiple web searches, then synthesising the findings into a structured document.
What is Deep Research?
Deep Research tackles questions that need thorough investigation rather than a quick answer. It plans a set of strategic web searches across different angles, reads the sources it finds, and synthesises everything into a structured report where every claim is backed by a citation you can open and verify.
This is one of Odeus's defining capabilities: unlike research assistants that lock you into a fixed model, Deep Research lets you choose which models run each part of the job, on a per-run basis.
When to use Deep Research
Deep Research is particularly useful for:
- Background research - comprehensive overviews of topics, companies, or industries
- Market analysis - market trends, sizing, and competitive landscapes
- Competitive analysis - in-depth competitor research and positioning
- Literature reviews - multi-source academic and technical investigations
- Strategic planning - research to inform business decisions
- Industry trends - emerging trends and their implications
Reach for Deep Research when you need a thorough, well-documented analysis rather than a quick fact or a casual back-and-forth. The finished report keeps its citations, so it is easy to share or hand off.
How Deep Research works
- Planning - Deep Research analyses your query and builds a research plan covering several angles.
- Multi-source searching - it runs multiple web searches and reads the most relevant sources.
- Real-time visibility - you watch the search activity as it happens and see sources appear as they are read.
- Synthesis - all findings are analysed and assembled into a structured report.
- Citation - every claim is linked back to its source so you can verify it.
Choose your models per run
Deep Research is built from several model "roles" that handle different parts of the work (for example planning and report structure, deep synthesis, and fast intermediate evaluations). Odeus lets you configure these model roles for each research run rather than forcing a single fixed model.
This means you can:
- Use a stronger reasoning model when accuracy and depth matter most.
- Use a faster, lower-cost model when you want a quick pass.
- Mix providers - Odeus supports Claude (Anthropic), GPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and Mistral.
The model you pick for ordinary chat is separate from the models Deep Research uses. When you start a research run you select the models for that run; sensible defaults are provided if you do not change them.
Choose your depth
Deep Research offers depth presets so you can trade speed for thoroughness:
| Depth | What it does |
|---|---|
| Quick | A fast pass with fewer searches - good for a first orientation |
| Standard | A balanced run covering the main angles of your question |
| Deep | The most thorough run, with more searches and deeper synthesis |
Pick the depth that matches how much rigour the task needs and how long you are willing to wait.
Getting started
1. Open Deep Research
Select Deep Research from the tools in the chat composer.
2. Enter your research query
Be specific about what you need (for example, "Compare pricing models for SaaS collaboration platforms" rather than "Tell me about SaaS"). Choose your depth and, if you want, adjust the models for this run.
3. Answer the follow-up questions
Deep Research may ask clarifying questions before it begins, so the plan matches what you actually want.
4. Watch the investigation in real time
You can see which sources are being read at each moment.
5. Review the report with citations
You can review the full activity of the run and inspect every source the report draws on.

Deep Research vs. regular chat
| Deep Research | Regular chat | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Minutes (varies with depth) | Instant |
| Sources | Multiple strategic searches | Limited |
| Output | Structured, cited report | Conversational |
| Citations | Comprehensive | Inline where available |
| Best for | In-depth analysis | Quick questions |
Deep Research gives you the depth and rigour of manual research with the speed of automation - and, uniquely, the freedom to pick the models for each run.
